MICO unites leading research institutions from the information extraction, semantic web, and multimedia area with industry leaders in the media sector. MICO is set up as an interdisciplinary effort involving leading European experts in the fields of Semantic Web and Linked Data technologies, distributed high-dimensional databases, natural language processing, and multimedia extraction. The consortium consists of 7 participants with complementary expertise, of which two are industrial research centres with a strong application focus (Salzburg Research and Fraunhofer), three are universities providing a solid formal backing for the project (Universtiy of Passau, UMEA Universtiy and Universtiy of Oxford), of which one is running the most successful crowd sourcing platform for academic research, two are innovative SME in the content management and media area (InsideOut10 and Zaizi Ltd).
This ensures a broad foundation of the project in state-of-the-art research as well as a high practical relevance of the project outcomes and a good sustainability of project results through the exploitation activities.
The project participants are distributed over 5 countries (Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and United Kingdom).
